It’s been an amazing time on the Mindjet booth. We made many, many new interesting contacts [...]]]> Finally, I’ve found some time to write a few lines about my trip to CeBIT 2007 for MindBusiness. There’s on more day to go so it seems like just the right time to tell you a bit about the experience.

It’s been an amazing time on the Mindjet booth. We made many, many new interesting contacts and have yet to check out all the different business opportunities. Thank you very, very much to everyone at Mindjet and all our partners on site who just kept sending interesting people to our desk all the time. It’s working together like this that is the basis for great opportunities.

This was also a great chance to refresh contacts with people we’re already working with – in some cases this was the first time I actually met people in person rather than just emailing or talking on the phone. That’s one of the things I really like about trade fairs. I’ve yet to see a piece of technology that can replace that.

So, what were people most interested in this year? Personally, I got the impression that there were three major topics for MindBusiness. In no particular order that’s an easy-to-use project planning tool (i.e. Map4Plan), creating links between MindManager and SharePoint as well as SharePoint in general.

I think people were happy to see that we provided a number of solutions to deal with these pain points:

• The current MindManager and SharePoint 2003 interfaces in Map4Plan
• The update for Map4Plan we’re working on that includes support for SharePoint 3.0 re. SharePoint Server 2007 as well as additional features such as synchronizing lists between Map4Plan and SharePoint (no definite date here yet)
• A new tool for MindManager that will let you display the structure of your SharePoint site as well as all the permissions and list and library details in a business map at the click of a button (no date here yet either)
• Our SharePoint site www.sharepointberater.de that lets you actually see for yourself what SharePoint can do

We also had a fair number of requests concerning our decision making tool Map4Score as well as the enhanced HTML export tool Map4Web. Our new concept and method for trainings and consulting “OnePage” was very well received by people we had the chance to talk to about it. There was also a great deal of interest in our MindManager publications by Dagmar Herzog. There only available in German the moment but I hope we might get to see one or two of them in English some time in the future.

So, what was your stay at CeBIT 2007 like? Did you meet interesting people? Did you get new ideas for business opportunities? Or did you just end up with swollen feet, pain in your legs and an aching back?

I hope you had a good time. Here’s some impressions from my stay at CeBIT 2007 with pictures from the Mindjet booth, the fair grounds as well as one of the attractive little tram stations. I hope you’ll enjoy them!

If you’re at CeBIT, one of the things you’ll be able to see at the [...]]]> I’ll be on my way to CeBIT in just a few moments and wanted to add a blog entry before I go. I’m really looking forward to this and hope to get interesting new contacts and see some great solutions and business opportunities.

If you’re at CeBIT, one of the things you’ll be able to see at the MindBusiness booth is an updated version of Map4Plan with milestones, Excel import and improved SharePoint integration for SharePoint 2007. If you’re looking for a planning tool that will get data from Excel into MindManager or let you publish project plans for your team, that’s the way to go. So just drop by if you think that sounds interesting. Of course we’ll be showing much, much more which I’ve outlined in a previous post.

First of all, I was fortunate enough to [...]]]> As you can see, I already posted an article dealing with the SharePoint Conference in Berlin earlier in the day. However, I thought it would be worth devoting a stand-alone posting to Groove since the event proved very useful for our Groove book for Microsoft Press as well.

First of all, I was fortunate enough to run into Microsoft’s Sr. Product Manager for Groove Matt Shannon at one of the talks dealing with Groove. It was great to hear some thoughts on Groove straight from the source. I also told him we’re currently working on the German version of the Groove handbook for Microsoft Press, and he was more than willing to provide us with support if needed.

Secondly, by chance more than anything else, I think, the Managing Director of Hommes & Process Jean-Michel Davault came to visit our booth. His company offers solutions for Groove and makes grooveit, a very useful tool for Microsoft Groove which will let you synchronize your Outlook calendar with Groove – a function available in Groove Virtual Office 3.1 but missing in 2007. He was delighted to hear about the book just as we were about meeting another real Groove expert. I think it’s certain to say that grooveit will feature in the upcoming book.

You know, it’s things like these that I adore about conferences. Chance conversations happen all the time. You’ll never know who you might meet next. And the best thing about it is that these people are actually open and willing to talk! It’s a terrific platform for professional exchange of information and knowledge as well as building networks for the future. Oh, and if you’re lucky enough, it’s also lots of fun.

So, since I forgot to ask this in my previous post: What was your stay at the SharePoint Conference like?

Unsurprisingly, there were lots of Microsoft people on site who were more than willing to answer questions on SharePoint, Office or other [...]]]> I just arrived home yesterday from a two-day stay at the Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Berlin. It was a long but more than worthwhile two days with many, many great opportunities and contacts.

Unsurprisingly, there were lots of Microsoft people on site who were more than willing to answer questions on SharePoint, Office or other Microsoft products. However, there were also many, many partners providing great solutions surrounding SharePoint. I had many very insightful discussions with some of those people (too many to cover all of them in just two days!) and hope new opportunities will arise from this.

On a similar level, there was great contact with people interested in SharePoint, providing many great business opportunities. It was pretty obvious that there’s a huge amount of interest in the new 2007 SharePoint platform along with Office 2007. I was happy to see that our collection of showcases as part of the “process house” or “Prozesshaus” on our SharePoint-Berater (i.e. SharePoint Advisor/Consultant) went down extremely well with people. I think it gave them a great opportunity to understand what SharePoint is about and how they can benefit.

Speaking of which: SharePoint-Berater is currently mostly in German. However, I think it probably still gives a very good idea of what’s possible with SharePoint (I showed this to many English speakers as well). Also, we’re currently looking into adding some English contents so just keep a look here to get updates on what’s new. At the moment, there’s a section on project management that’s in English.
