I recently updated my ActiveSync installation to version 4.5 (from 4.2) and found myself not being able to reconnect my Windows Mobile 5 device, an XDA Neo.
You know when you’ve got a problem like this, the solution is going to be mind-numbingly simple, don’t you?
Irrespective of how often I’d restart my PC or my mobile device, for that matter, I’d just keeping the message that the mobile device could not be recognized. A “Generic RNDIS†device was reported connected to my USB port but no device drivers were to be found.
Since the device itself comes without drivers, because I couldn’t find any on the homepage of my mobile network operator and due to the fact I’d installed ActiveSync 4.5 without any problems, I started wondering what more I could possibly do.
I’m not quite sure why but I decided to check out the ActiveSync installation folder only to find it contains a folder called “Drivers”. The .inf files therein quickly prompted me to give it another try. Hence, I reconnected the mobile device and eagerly pointed in the direction of the newly-found folder.
The best part is it actually worked. It’s really the simple things in life that will do the trick, isn’t it?
